School's Almost Out For Summer: To Have Your Child Keep His/Her iPad/Chromebook Is The Question... the CHOICE IS YOURS!

posted Apr 13, 2017, 7:11 AM by Lucy Lloyd

As you are aware of, families with children in grades 4th-11th were surveyed about their interest in having their child keep his/ her device over the summer.  In addition, parents that have a senior this year were also surveyed about purchasing his/ her Chromebook.  The data came back very close to keep or not, so we are offering a CHOICE.  Last summer we changed our mobile device management system and therefore no longer need to touch every device.  So, this year, we have no reason to collect every device.  After reviewing and discussing all the ways our students could use their devices for learning over the summer (eBooks, reviewing materials and practice skills learned this year, further investigating academic interests, and exploring and creating projects based on personal interests along with some Brain Break time..of course), we have had discussions about allowing students to keep them over the summer.  1:1 iPads will continue to be used in grades 4-8 and 1:1 Chromebooks in 9-12. Please also note that the school devices will be coming home over the summer with apps that were installed while at school. A student survey was given out to students with iPads to determine what other apps would be available in the self-service for them over the summer, so we chose the top apps and those are available now to students.  Thank you so much!

Students will be able to pick up their device on the first day of school. However, if they have completed this form along with making the insurance payment by Friday, May 26th he/ she can take the iPad (this year's 4th-7th Grade Students) over the summer and bring it back the first day of school. Students in grades 8th-11th will be notified when their devices are ready to be picked up over the summer (if forms and insurance payment are complete) if they wish to do so, otherwise it will be ready the first day of school.  If plans change, and we have the 8th-11th grade devices ready earlier, we will make sure to inform you.  Please continue to check the local newspapers and school social networking sites.  Class of 2017 students who are wanting to purchase a Chromebook, will also be notified over the summer (or earlier) through the local newspapers and through school social networking sites when the devices are available.  If you are bringing your own device, please make sure to mark this on the form!  Thank you so much!

1.  All iPads/ Chromebooks would be inspected before summer to assess damage.

2.  $40/$350 (refundable) Insurance and paperwork would need to be completed before the device is sent home and insurance would cover through the 2017-2018 school year.  You will find the 1:1 Handbook Form Button and 1:1 Device Insurance Button on the homepage of the school website:

3.  Your child should bring his/ her device ready to go and fully charged to start the new school year.

4.  Continue to visit with your child about digital citizenship and appropriate use of the iPad/Chromebook.
